K.A.R.R The Begining

Postby Bane » Tue Nov 20, 2012 6:16 pm

Hi, I am Joe from Massachusetts. My first K.I.T.T I built in 1996 which had Mark's Custom KITTS nose and Diamondback dash(yes I actually got one only after driving to Erics house in upstate New York). In October 1999 he was totaled by a drunk driver while parked in front of my friends house. I didn't have the heart to build another until the past few months. I started off by finding one of Mark's noses used on ebay. Then James who has been great in getting me back into the swing of things sold me his K.A.R.R electronics. I then picked up one of Mark's steering wheels used on ebay and found a black 91 Firebird just over the weekend. As of right now I'm going to gut the interior and replace all the weather stripping. Once that is done I will start shopping for a 1/2 season dash unless a good deal pops up before then. Here are a few pics and will post updates as they happen.

Who's the maker of your electronics? They look nice.

Thanks everyone. Got the turbo hood on today looks like crap as the paint is not as nice as the stocker, but its going to be repainted anyway. Interior is gutted a lot of mildew smell from the leaky tops plus found a pin hole in the driver side floor, so I am going to have to grind and weld it. Weather stripping should be here soon so once I get rid of the smell it will stay away. Next step is to get i mechanically sound, have pass tie rod and brakes all around to do other than that it runs great. The electronics are Jupiter, I got them off of forum member crow23462. Will post updated pics tomorrow.

Let me give you a piece of advice on your interior stuff smelling like mildew. You're going to have to clean and deodorize the jute padding and seat foam if you plan on reusing them. This is tough because of how each is made, but it can be done. If not, your seats and that jute padding will continue to stink, and if it gets the least little bit damp in the car, guess what? That mildew will just keep coming back.
