Window tint...

Postby Rafael » Thu Jan 08, 2015 11:31 am

Ok... I AM going to tint my Kitt... I live in Florida and it's a black car...
But the questions is...
Which one?

The traditional "dark"?
I have a waiver from a doctor & the state of Florida, so I can tint my windshield completely to match.

Or Llumar Air 80...
A 'non tinted" tint... it makes the window look a little more blue than no tint, but from the outside, you can barely notice it's on... Offers all the benefits of dark tint, minus the dark, and easier to see at night.

The Look...
A totally blacked out car looks mean...
But Kitt didn't have that look... (except on a few occasions)...
Seeing inside of Kitt (from the outside), to me, was part of the look.
I'm leaning towards the Llumar Air 80...

Thoughts ?

Works with 12VDC ... $395 a window.
Must be powered to be CLEAR. Default is Black.
Not big enough for the hatch. :(

Personally, I loved the all blacked out look and that is what i plan to do with KITT. I figure it makes the inside all that more of a shocker when you roll down the window or open the door.

That electric window film, bad ass... but needs power to be on...
and when it's off, it's not clear to see through... could be a hazard while driving...

I was thinking the same. By default, its' dark. Meaning, if you lose power to a window film ... you can't see out of it.

If it defaults clear. That would be great.

The Lumar Air 80 sounds interesting..... I'm going for a dark look on mine. Just comes off sharper, and more sinister to me. 20% sides and rear. Those rear hatch windows are a b!@tch to tint. That's one job I don't particularly enjoy is tinting windows. For the cost, I'm opting to just have somebody else do it for me. Did I mention I hate tinting windows?

I'm not saying the dark looks bad, It does look very nice...
I'm just saying the llumar air 80 might be more correct looking...
With the benefits of dark uv / heat protection

The shop that did my daily driver (in dark) carries llumar... so when it comes time, I'll go check it out...

Oh, and yes, 1 piece rear window :)

When I was still driving my 82 I had the rear hatch at 5% tint, aka limo tint and on the side windows I had 35%. As you mentioned since the car is black, even with the 35% it seemed to all blend in. At certain angles it looked darker, but up close and looking right at it there was no problem seeing through it. I also got 35% because here in CA you can't have any tint on the front windows and for the most part cops left me alone, I did get 1 fix it ticket in the few years I actively drove it.
