Battery size

Postby kleist » Sun Apr 12, 2015 4:28 pm

I need a new battery after not starting my car all winter. What size battery does anyone recommend for an 84 TA that I will have a Halogen scanner installed in ?

Various ones fit...
Highly recommend a Battery Tender of some sort...
My Yellow Top Optima lasted 9 years with one...

+1 on the Optima Yellow Top. It even starts right up after the winter hibernation.

Optima began having issues a few years ago (before I bought mine)...
People reported having problems, company had changed ownership, changed recipe to save $$$, etc...

Best deal I found was Napa, great price and 2 year replacement, 7 year pro-rated...

-1 on the Optima Yellow Top. I went through 2 of them. I'll never buy one again.

I don't remember the specs on my current battery, but a trickle charger is a must. I actually unhooked mine for the winter. I would recommend getting one with both side and top mount terminals. With just the side terminals, it was a pain the charge or even take the battery in and out. I converted mine over and addeds a quick disconnect to make things much easier. I did make sure to get a battery with a high amount of cold cranking amps. Remember, this is an old v8 and it takes a lot to get it going! :D

I replaced both cables on mine to accept top post batteries. Those side mounts suck.
